Wizard - Studio Engineer/Producer/Artist

Wizard

Wizard has spent the last 15 years building a formidable reputation as one of the foremost producers in electronic music. Mostly working behind the scenes as an engineer, producer, and programmer, he has contributed to albums and singles by some of the biggest names in dance music from Chase and Status to Alabama 3.

Starting At Miloco Studios at the age of 16 Wizard quickly worked himself up the ladder. Cutting his teeth in the early days on microphones, 2 inch tape, Atari STs and Akai samplers, he could be found handling sessions for the likes of The Chemical Brothers and Howie B whilst still finding time to make cups of tea and coffee for the bands.

A well as being very proficient with large Neve and SSL consoles and having vast recording knowledge, Wizard has managed to keep himself on top of the ever changing technology associated with music production. A love of sonics has always led Wizard in pursuit of technical innovations to bring a new edge to his sound. Today his mixes are generally created inside a computer and over the years Wizard has built up an arsenal of plug-ins and software to give him an advantage over many producers.

As an artist he is mainly known for being one half of Deekline & Wizard, a collaboration that started over 10 years ago and has seen the release of two chart topping artist albums and a dizzying array of club smashing hits. It was through the Deekline & Wizard releases where Wizard really came to prominence. The Deekline & Wizard sound, with its stylistic breadth, added a new dimension to breakbeat, taking in electro, hip hop, reggae, two-step, house and breaks. The sound was slick and refreshing and the heavy use of vocals was the forerunner of a sound that is very 'now'. Championed by the dance music community it opened up a new chapter in breakbeat, as the scene's emphasis changed from tracks for sweaty backrooms to music with real soul and sex appeal.

During 2000 Wizard was integral to the sound behind much of the London urban scene with projects including tracks and albums by Roll Deep, Wiley, M.I.A, Lady Sovereign, Tinchy Stryder, Ms Dynamite, The Chemical Brothers, New Order and many more.

With the opening of his new studio in Brixton Jamm, 2011 is full of new collaborations and solo releases from the Wizard, including a Drumstep/DnB release with the legendary Congo Natty.
