Jamm Session
Another internal event with another eclectic mix of cutting-edge live acts and DJs.
Headlining this month is the legendary Artful Dodger who shot to fame in 2003 after producing the Number 1 selling album ‘Born To Do It’ with Craig David, following their platinum selling album ‘Its All About The Stragglers’.
They have continued to work the DJ circuit since, tearing up dance floors up and down the UK and all over the world (Dubai, Holland, Poland, Romania, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Russia, Switzerland, Ibiza, Cyprus, South Korea, Germany, Prague & the USA to name but a few).
The live Artful Dodger sets are not just your run of the mill DJ/MC set, but are packed to the brim with innumerable styles from UK Garage, Funky & Soulful House, Bassline, Electro, Hip Hop, Bashment, Jungle/D&B & Rare Groove.
3-piece band Man Like Me will also be gracing the stage with their infamous energy-driven live performances.
Man Like Me have built a strong and loyal following through a combination of quality releases, extensive gigging, and TV and radio appearances.
Led by mild-mannered 24-year-old Johnny Langer, Man Like Me combine indie, rave, grime, ska and hip-hop with matter-of-fact lyrics to create an unquestionably youthful British sound.
Warming up for Man Like Me will be 4-piece live band Lilly Mckenzie And Friends, a band recently featured on BBC 1XTRA. This collective of musicians from South London feed off 2 Step Grooves, Soulful Harmonies, and Raw Energy playing everything from Old School Garage Classics, to their own material fusioning broken beat, soul, and funky house. Expect to see a completely new take on live music.
Crossing the i’s and dotting the t’s on the decks this month will be Rinse FM’s Oneman, fresh of the release of his Rinse FM Mix CD, Oneman has almost single handed re-invented dub-step - taking the art of DJing to a new level – recontextualising 2 step garage into dubstep, grime, ‘wonky’ and beyond.
Man of the moment Banton Hard House will also be on the decks providing a full on mix of bassline and soulful house. Still in high demand after the huge success of his debut single ‘Sirens’ this set is not to be missed.
Resident DJs Ordio Kid, Binman, Orchestrash and Buds will also be on hand filling the gaps with a mash up of Dub-step, Jungle, Hip-Hop and Drum and Bass.
This combination of big names and up and coming talent showcasing their material in one of South London most popular venues is guaranteed to blow the roof.
