Now that summer is in full swing and festival season is upon us, Saturday 2nd July saw Brixton Jamm host The Origins x Soundwave Croatia launch party. As the festival enters its 8th year there was reason to celebrate and what better way than with a sold-out day and night party on the longest day of the year – Summer Solstice!
Taking place at the beginning of August, Soundwave festival joined forces with The Origins to give South London a taste of what to expect out in Croatia next month. Having recently undergone a full renovation, Brixton Jamm was transformed into a tropical extravaganza by the brilliant Notorious P.I.G Productions. The new-look courtyard was given the full carnival treatment as inflatables, bunting, glitter & make-up artists took over, there was also a 15ft inflatable banana thrown in for good measure too! With the sun shining and in keeping with the carnival vibe there was a delicious jerk BBQ in the courtyard, put on by the delectable Magicbox.
If the aesthetics side of the party was anything to go by then the music and line-up were set to be pretty incredible too, featuring a special live performance in the courtyard from the reggae legend, Dawn Penn.
Tuckshop resident DJ’s provided the beats throughout the afternoon and into the early evening, as well as linking up for a special collaboration with Dawn Penn as she worked her way through her many hits. A highlight of the party was when Dawn finished her incredible set with “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)” – it was even given the rewind treatment!
The party wasn’t just about the music either, as Brixton Jamm provided projectors in both the Club and Bar rooms showing the Euro 2016 quarter-final match between Germany and Italy.
There was also neon hula-hoop dancer’s who entertained throughout the night and made for a particularly brilliant visual experience in the Club room.
As the night went on Shut The Front Door DJ’s made sure the party continued dancing with a strictly disco set taking place in the Bar room.
The Club room then hosted the incredible Brighton based Normanton Street, a jazz and hip-hop influenced four-piece with three of the band members contributing to vocals turning it into a unique live performance.
Two surprise Soundwave festival headliners were brought in to play in the Club room, giving the crowd a taste of what’s to come next month out in Croatia.
The night was brought to a close in the club room featuring Wayward, The Menendez Brothers and Emerald. For those in attendance it was a fantastic ending to what was a hugely successful party, and a great send off for Soundwave festival!
